Summary

 

The City of Lynnwood is seeking a Mapping Intern to join our Public Works Team!
 
This temporary, part-time intern position is located in the Public Works Department at the City of Lynnwood. The ideal candidate will be enrolled in a Geographic Information Systems (GIS)  or Engineering program. Working hours are flexible to accommodate class schedules, if needed.  However, this position is 100% working in the office.
 Individuals assigned to this position will assist in research, file review, gathering, preparing, and drawing in data using ArcGIS. Individuals will also perform administrative functions including compiling reports, copying, retrieving information and working in Cartegraph to support supervisory staff.

 

 

 

Essential Functions

 

Includes but is not limited to such essential functions as listed below:
  • Gather information and/or data relevant to engineering. Prepare data and reports for use and consideration by supervisory staff. Assist in providing information and performing research duties.
  • Research in the field and assist in updating drawings and manuals.
  • Operate Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Power Point and use cartographic software programs appropriately. May write some original correspondence and create layers.
  • Perform various clerical functions including copying, filing, archiving, and distributing documents.
  • Maintain department files, file, archive, and retrieve information in support of supervisory staff.
  • Review digital files and properly store in Microsoft drives.
  • Use ArcGIS Pro to draw in assets for later use in maps and programs. 
  • Be able to learn Cartegraph to assist in data adding and clean up.
  • Maintain regular attendance.

 

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Must be currently enrolled in a two or four-year program with an emphasis in Engineering, Geography, Applied Sciences or a related field. Possess a valid State driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to the City’s insurance carrier.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  

  • Knowledge of ArcGIS
  • Knowledge of Microsoft products.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and read engineering plans and calculations and other technical terminology.
  • Ability to work effectively with frequent interruptions at times and be able to maintain composure.
Required Physical Traits
  

  • Visual acuity to read and review documents and plans and to conduct inspections.
  • Hearing and speaking ability to effectively exchange information.
  • Able to lift and carry heavy objects weighing at least 60 lbs.
  • Ability to climb, walk over rough or uneven surfaces, crouch, turn/twist, push and pull, reach overhead and above the shoulders.
  • Ability to drive a vehicle.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment including personal computers with associated software.
This is a seasonal/temporary, non-benefitted position.
