Responsibilities:
This position manages the Recreational Mooring Buoy Program and provides support to the Habitat Stewardship Program. Typical duties include:

• Manage the day-to-day operations of the Mooring Buoy Program including directing functions and duties of technical staff for licensing of mooring buoy, boatlift, and swim float authorizations.
• Maintain stakeholder relationships and regularly communicate with Tribal staff, local, state, and federal governments and contractors.
• Manage six DNR-managed Mooring Buoy Fields in Thurston, Pierce, and King County and support future compliance and planning efforts on State-owned aquatic lands.
• Provide Habitat Stewardship Program support through planning, development, and implementation of best management practices and habitat stewardship for ESA-listed species and other species of concern.
• Provide support to Habitat Stewardship Program Unit Supervisor.
• Develop publications for external consumption.
• Participate and represent the Aquatic Resources Division in public forums and communicate the division’s mission, goals, and standards to various stakeholders.
• Supervise and direct the work of a full-time Property and Acquisition Specialist 1 (Land Manager 1).

Required Qualifications: 

• A Bachelor’s degree with a major emphasis in land use, urban, regional, environmental, or natural resource planning, landscape architecture, geography, land use or environmental law, public administration with an environmental emphasis, or closely related field.
  AND Two years of professional experience in land use, environmental or natural resources planning, or program development.
  OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of environmental planning and natural resource management.
• Ability to provide technical writing that is clear, concise, precise, and accurate.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and GIS software.
• Experience with independently interpreting and applying policy in the development of environmental resource plans and habitat stewardship in aquatic environments.

• 95% office setting with the option to work remotely. 5% field work.
• Travel will occur in state-issued vehicles with overnight travel infrequent but likely. Generally, overnight travel for state business will not occur more than three nights annually.

• A bachelor’s degree or above with a major emphasis in land use, urban, regional, environmental, or natural resource planning, landscape architecture, geography, land use or environmental law, public administration with an environmental emphasis, or closely related field AND 2 years of experience.
• Experience working with natural resources or natural resource management/environmental protection agencies at the local, state, tribal, or federal levels.
• Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal environmental regulations and policies affecting the management of aquatic lands.
• Ability to obtain a Remote Pilot Certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration.
• Experience operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining underwater and aerial drones.
• Experience supervising staff.
