Join Tacoma Power as a Natural Resources Technician and experience the thrill of bridging the gap between nature and information. As a vital member of our team, you’ll provide support for natural resources management requirements associated with operation of Tacoma Power’s Cowlitz, Cushman, Nisqually, and Wynoochee Hydroelectric Projects. Your contributions will directly impact the preservation and sustainable management of Tacoma Power’s invaluable resources. In this role, you’ll embark on field expeditions to collect essential data on fish and wildlife. But that’s not all—your role will extend beyond fieldwork. You’ll also be responsible for organizing and managing large datasets, ensuring their integrity and accuracy. Your meticulous attention to detail and passion for data organization will be instrumental in facilitating effective analysis and decision-making. Moreover, your creative flair will shine as you create stunning visualizations that transform raw data into engaging stories, empowering stakeholders to make informed choices.
As a Natural Resource Technician you will play a crucial role in providing support and subject matter across diverse domains, such as Data Analytics, Budgeting, and GIS. In addition, you will be responsible for providing consultations, delivering training, and developing comprehensive self-service data and training catalogs for both Natural Resources and Generation Staff. Your primary responsibilities will include:
Responsibilities Include:

Undertaking various data-related tasks, such as collection, entry, documentation, organization, quality assurance, analysis, and reporting. This includes working with datasets associated with fish and wildlife handling, water quality monitoring, environmental permitting, spawning ground surveys, habitat monitoring and management, cultural and historic resource monitoring, land use monitoring, and fish facilities, among other activities.

Assisting with special studies, projects, surveys, permitting, and investigations to contribute to the advancement of natural resources management and conservation efforts.

Supporting the collection management and analysis of data related to natural resources, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the information gathered.

Preparing and delivering oral and/or written reports and engaging in consultations with internal and external stakeholders, effectively communicating findings and recommendations derived from your work.

Actively participating in special events and functions related to natural resources, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among colleagues and stakeholders.

Contribute to the enhancement of data analytics capabilities and maturity within natural resources.

This position provides weekend and after hour response as assigned by their supervisor.
Qualifications
Minimum Education*
High School Diploma or GED with coursework in biology or environmental science
Minimum Experience*
2 years *Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education
Desired Experience:

Experience with MS Office Suite, SharePoint, SQL, Tableau (or other data visualization tools), and Snowflake
- GIS Certification and/or Experience with ESRI Products (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Field Maps, etc.)
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
First Aid and CPR certification within the first 6 months of employment
Washington State Driver’s License
