Salary and Range: $20-$25 / hour, 20-30 hours / week, paid holidays if they fall on days you work

Overview
This position is responsible for co-teaching garden education to elementary through high-school aged youth. HOPE facilitates various programs throughout the year, both in and out of the classroom, as well as an 8-week high school summer program. Our curriculums cover the basics of growing food and maintaining gardening spaces, agriculture, horticulture, and sustainability practices, culinary literacy, nutrition, and holistic healthy living. HOPE partners with the Department of Health through their SNAP-ed program to delivery Evidence Based health education. Since HOPE is a very small nonprofit, teamwork, self-direction, and alignment with our mission are all required. Our ideal candidate must be willing to get their hands dirty, play lots of games, and have tons of fun while inspiring and supporting youth and encouraging a passion for growing food.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Co-teach classes of various sizes with students ages kindergarten through high school

  • Maintain a safe, accepting space for program participants

  • Design and manage garden spaces

  • Participate in grant writing and reporting

  • Solicit donations from the community such as seeds and garden supplies

  • Assist in program development

  • Attend monthly SNAP-Ed meetings and other SNAP-Ed required trainings

  • Engage in community collaborations

  • Be a source of inspiration

Required Qualifications:

  • Garden and/or farm experience, specifically within our western PNW climate

  • Interested in working with youth

  • Has or willing to obtain Food Handler’s Permit

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds

  • Must be comfortable working outside in all weather conditions

  • Committed to help HOPE grow

  • Ability to pass background test

  • Emotionally intelligent, outgoing, creative, and fun

  • Must have good boundaries

  • Self-Directed

  • Have reliable transportation

  • Must be comfortable with a combination of working at home and working in the field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching and/or working with kids

  • Educated in nutrition and health

  • Grant writing experience

  • Team building and leadership training experience
