Salary- $52,776.00 – $70,956.00

Responsibilities:

  • Work in a respectful and professional manner
  • Build professional relationships
  • Ensuring that the team achieves the DNR vision and mission and does so consistent with the DNR values and core competencies
  • Negotiating aquatic land management issues and proposing contracts to Executive Management
  • Aid proponent through agreement process
  • Reviews surveys to meet department guidelines
  • Preparing the actual legal lease contract document and the lease exhibits
  • Review and comment on project designs and regulatory permits.
  • Complete SEPA evaluation and follow up on public comment when DNR is lead agency for land use authorization
  • Ensure compliance with agreements
  • Develop resource management plans
  • Participate in restoration, mitigation, and creosote removal projects by providing assistance to other programs staff

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Experience managing multiple complex tasks, setting workload priorities, and completing tasks on time.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with contract, business, or property management.
  • Experience interpreting and implementing guidelines, regulations, and laws.
  • Experience working with natural resource management/environmental protection issues.
  • Experience providing good customer service.
  • Experience negotiating contentious issues in a respectful, responsive, and informed manner.
  • Experience speaking and writing clearly and succinctly and using typical office software.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate on internal and external issues in active, respectful, cooperative, and professional manner.
  • A valid driver’s license and have two years of driving experience. This position requires driving as an essential function. Finalists and/or interview candidates will be asked to provide a driving record from all states in which they have held a license during the past three years.

  • The work environment is a mix between the office and the field, with the majority of work in the office. Most fieldwork involves being on or near the water with the risk of falling in (use of personal flotation devices are mandatory in such locations.) Most fieldwork involves driving, often on congested roads with a high volume of traffic.
  • Travel may be required to locations within the District or Olympia. Most travel is by car. Most travel requires less than two concurrent nights away. Overnight travel is generally less than two nights a month.
  • Employees of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. This position is based in an office/fieldwork setting and requires in-person attendance/interactions with no option for full-time telework. Please note that any offer of employment is contingent upon you providing verification of your vaccine status. No start date will be approved until you verify your status.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and two years’ experience in natural resource management, real estate, forestry, science, engineering, land use or environmental planning, business or other relevant field.
  • Knowledge and understanding of land use authorizations (leases, easements, licenses, etc.) and other legal instruments associated with land management.
  • Experience working for or with other resource agencies, tribes, or local governments.
  • Knowledge of environmental permitting/regulatory processes and rules.
  • Experience working in commodity industries (e.g., shellfish, minerals, timber, or agriculture).
  • Experience using business management software and/or GIS.
  • Experience with site analysis and/or sampling programs.
  • Experience working on public access, recreation, or parks issues.
  • Experience operating small motorboats.
