Job Description
Binghamton University’s Environmental Studies Program and the Biological Sciences Department invite
applications for a full-time lecturer position with a focus on ecosystems and plant ecology beginning in
Fall 2022 for a two-year appointment with the possibility of renewal. The position will be a joint hire
between the two units.
We seek an environmental scientist who can teach students about the challenges of the human-nature
interface. Our new colleague should have expertise in population, community, evolutionary, or ecosystem
ecology. Successful applicants are expected to contribute to teaching ecology-related courses including
the instruction of a large-enrollment Ecology course and plant ecology. The teaching load for this position will be three courses per semester. This load will be split between the two departments, which have a long history of collaborating on the Environmental Studies major.

Requirements
● Ph.D. required, ABD status considered
● Preference given to candidates with prior experience teaching general ecology, plant ecology, and
environmental science / studies including experience teaching large enrollment courses.
● Preference given to candidates with:
o evidence of advancing equity and inclusion through teaching
o experience providing undergraduate research opportunities through courses and
individual mentorship
o experience in teaching large enrollment courses
o an interest in and ability to use alternative and innovative instructional methods
