SERNW is seeking a communications intern to help us improve the quality of our communication with our membership, and to provide information and resources to community members who are interested in learning more about or becoming involved with restoration in our bioregion. We are looking for a student from our region who is interested in producing and managing web content, enjoys writing, has an eye for graphic design, and has a strong interest in ecological restoration. This role will be collaborative, and the successful candidate may interact with a diversity of SERNW professionals.

Our communications intern will assist our chapter with the following:

  • Keep our chapter website up to date, including writing and posting new content,
  • Develop engaging social media posts about restoration in the bioregion,
  • Create content for chapter newsletters,
  • Identify and implement projects to improve our chapter website content,
  • Participate in communications committee meetings and board meetings, as appropriate.

Interns will get a wide range of useful experience during their internship, including:

  • Acquire first-hand experience about how volunteer-run nonprofits operate,
  • Gain experience and grow as a writer through collaboration with restoration professionals,
  • Learn, practice, and get feedback on basic website management, organization, and structure,
  • Practice and get feedback on professional social media communication (mostly Facebook and Instagram),
  • Meet and collaborate with leaders in the ecological restoration field who can serve as mentors.
  • Commitment: Our communications intern will assist SERNW with the tasks listed above for one year, with the expectation of around 20 hours per-month. While some meetings will need to be scheduled with board members, most responsibilities can be completed on a flexible schedule on your own time.
