Debuted earlier this year, this film produced by Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and Conservation Northwest has been awarded the 2021 People’s Choice-Gold Winner by the national Telly Awards!

A film by Ted Grudowski and Darrin Gunkel. Produced by Scott Downes, Elizabeth Torrey, Chase Gunnell and Mark Teske.

The shrub-steppe of central Washington’s Columbia Basin is a land of rich biodiversity, vibrant communities and poignant beauty. It is a place both iconic and increasingly at risk. It’s also the focus of our Sagelands Heritage Program, with CNW three staffers living and working across central Washington.

Despite impacts from severe wildfires and habitat fragmentation, recovery programs are underway for species such as sage-grousepygmy rabbitssharp-tailed grouse and pronghorn antelope, while efforts including the Arid Lands Initiative and Conservation Reserve Program foster constructive partnership for the future of Washington’s shrub-steppe.

For wildlife lovers, hunters and anglers, Indigenous peoples, farmers and ranchers, outdoor recreationists and so many others, this land is no desert devoid of life, This Land is Part of Us.

After the film, speakers and the production team will join the public for a panel discussion on conserving shrub-steppe habitats and answer questions from listeners.

Please make sure to register beforehand. We hope you’ll join us at 6:00pm on November 3!
