The Texas Conservation Corps’ Youth Paddling Program Assistant will help promote the National Park Service’s mission by leading youth through canoeing and kayaking adventures in Big Thicket National Preserve. The program strives to invite a larger audience into public lands by eliminating traditional barriers of inclusion in a safe and supportive environment.
The ideal candidate for this opportunity will be familiar with the waterways of east Texas and will be expected to engage with members of the community while helping to foster a positive experience with the outdoors and NPS staff. They will need to be able to swim and tread water and work at least one weekend day each week.
Term: October 18, 2021 – August 19, 2022
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Between the ages of 21-28
- US Citizenship or lawful permanent US Resident
- Ability to pass a National Service Criminal History Check
- Ability to swim and tread water
- Ability to work one weekend day each week
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather types
- Ability to work with a diverse group of people
- Commitment to complete the entire term of service
