Summary

This position is located on the NWQQT associated with one of the Science and Technology National Support Centers or National Headquarters.

The employee is the NWQQT SME for nutrient management planning. The employee works with national leadership for technology development and support in conservation planning and implementation; animal waste management; nutrient management planning; water quality and quantity and soil, air, plant, animal, energy, and human resource concerns.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a source of expert information and advice to states in the development of Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plans (CNMP) and Nutrient Management Plans (NMP) associated with animal waste management on individual farms and within watersheds.
  • Provide training, guidance, evaluation, and refinement in utilizing nutrients in the waste as a resource; and preventing the nutrients from having a detrimental impact on desired resource use and environmental quality.
  • Provide scientific basis and assist in the development and review of NRCS policy, procedures, practices, references, and other technical materials related to nutrient management, water quality, and animal waste management.
  • Apply professional knowledge and experience in agronomy, nutrient management and water quality and related physical and chemical sciences to impact legislation, develop strategies and initiatives, and to provide for maximum coordination.
