Pierce County Parks manages over 5,000 acres of open space, trails, developed and undeveloped parks.  We provide recreational programs and community gathering spaces. The department consists of three divisions:  Parks and Recreation, Administrative Services and Resource Stewardship. POSITION SUMMARY:
The student will report directly to a Recreation Supervisor. He/she will gain knowledge in planning, coordinating and administering activities in all components of the department. Specific activities will be determined depending on the internship start dates. Examples may include: youth sports, day camps, environmental education, leisure classes, special events, volunteer service, inclusive programs and camps, fun runs/walks, facility booking/scheduling, developing partnerships, and the basics of sponsorships/fundraising. The intern’s culminating summer project will be the planning and execution of the Come Fly a Kite Days and having key roles in the events hosted at Chambers Creek Regional Park. In addition, the student will learn the day to day operations of the Parks Department. The internship will begin in early June and with a maximum of 280 paid hours.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The student will be required to complete a job application and background check before the specific internship guidelines, duties, and goals for the internship experience are developed and agreed upon by the student, University Advisor and our department.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and track timelines.
  • Ability to respond effectively to changing priorities and urgencies and maintain a sense of control.
  • Ability to interact calmly and tactfully with the public and internal customers.
  • Successful completion of all required background checks may be required prior to employment.

Must possess a valid Washington State Driver’s license, or the ability to obtain the license within 30 days of employment, or otherwise meet the travel requirements of the position.
