Job Description:

This position is currently being offered as either a Limited Duration appointment for anyone to apply OR as a statewide Job Rotation to all permanent, current State of Oregon employees (this includes regular status and limited duration employees who have completed trial service).  State of Oregon job rotations require employer approval. This position is located in Central Point.

What will you do?  

As Dispatch Center Supervisor, you will administer and supervise the fire dispatch center for the Medford Unit, Southwest Oregon District. You will develop and establish dispatch plans and procedures for the Unit in cooperation with neighboring dispatch centers.  This position implements and oversees adherence to Agency procedures and policies regarding forest fire dispatch protocols statewide and nationally. You will coordinate suppression efforts with cooperators, partners, and landowners. In addition, you will help coordinate the smoke management program, and assist with fire prevention activities for the Unit.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Candidates whose demonstrate skills, abilities and/or experience in the following:

  • Five years (60 months) of wildland fire suppression, emergency dispatching or equivalent experience which includes one year of leading/supervising the work of others.

 OR

  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry or closely related natural resources field and two years of wildland fire suppression or emergency dispatching experience which includes one year of leading/supervising the work of others.

  • Team oriented with an interagency mindset toward building strong working relationships.

  • Knowledge or understanding of ODF’s fire protection system and the role and responsibilities of private landowners.

  • Ability to multitask in a high paced high stress environment.

  • Knowledge of wildland fire suppression dispatching plans and procedures including but not limited to preplanned block card and multifire procedure, extended attack, closest forces, and mutual aid.

  • Knowledge of multiple wildland fire agency missions, policies, procedures, and dispatching programs.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both oral and written, with an emphasis on customer service.

  • Strong organization skills.

  • Strong experience in wildland fire suppression.

  • Strong leadership skills in wildland fire fighting.

  • Able to lead employees to success in a challenging and unique work environment

  • Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of service, workforce diversity, equity and inclusion, team environment, and strong internal communication and alignment.

  • Preference may be given to candidates with current wildland fire dispatch qualifications of IADP, ACDP, EDRC, EDSD and/or EDSP.
