The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has a full-time opportunity available for an Air Quality Permit Coordinator (Administrative Specialist 1) located in Portland, Oregon.

There are 3 regions (Northwest, Western, and Eastern); this position is in the Northwest Region. The Regions provide the following services: compliance inspection of regulated entities; enforcement of permit requirements and administrative rules; issuance of air, water, and solid waste permits; investigation of complaints; issuance of subsurface permits in counties; response to spills or other incidents with environmental impacts; direct contact and liaison with other governmental entities, industries, and the public; and technical assistance to regulated entities and the public. What you will do!

You will coordinate administrative tasks associated with the Air Quality Program permitting process for Northwest Region to ensure smooth and timely completion of permitting activities and issuance of permits. You will produce documents for public notices, make arrangements for public meetings, prepare the paperwork for permit issuance, update DEQ information systems with appropriate information, and send correspondence. In addition, you will provide direct assistance to companies or organizations requiring permits, and handle other public inquiries regarding DEQ’s Air Quality permit program where program guidance is well-defined.

What are we looking for?

  • 3 years of clerical/secretarial experience that included 2 years at a full performance level performing typing, word processing, or other generation of documents.
  • Lead work responsibility or coordination of office procedures experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, time management, customer service, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Experience performing data entry accurately; ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Experience in a fast-paced work environment with shifting priorities and varying demands.
  • Experience explaining rules and procedures, as well as experience processing requests for information.
  • Experience researching, analyzing, and interpreting data and other information.
  • Experience and strong ability to work collaboratively within a team and across teams.

Working Conditions:

Work is primarily in an office setting. Occasional state and interstate travel required to attend meetings and trainings.
