Opening October 2nd in Galerie Fotoland

Kirk Jones

The Urban Farm

Now Showing in Galerie FotolandCome see Kirk’s gigantic landscapes of some of Portland’s urban farms.  The online images don’t do justice to the clarity and detail presented in his prints.

For the past five years, our former Photoland intern Jones (’93) has been making photographs with the Gigapan System, as a way of creating high-resolution panoramic images that can be printed in very large format and capable of providing exceptional detail. He prefers this way of working, as it slows down process, allowing for more engagement and deliberation. He likens this high tech approach to photographers of the past, working with large, heavy and unwieldy equipment.    Jones has shown extensively around Portland and the Northwest. He recently received two commissions by Portland’s landmark parks (The Pittock Mansion and Lan Su Chinese Garden.) This January, his series on Northwest logging will be included in The Meaning of Wood at The Seattle Convention Center.  He’s been published in CNN.com, BonAppetit.com and NYTimes.com. He is a 2014 recipient of the Bronze Award in the Epson International Pano Competition.
