For those of you who like to plan ahead, some reminders/announcements:

  • No class Week 7 Mon. Feb. 20 due to Presidents’ Day holiday.
  • Exam Revisions due by 9am Tue. Feb. 21.
  • Reading Assignments for Week 7:
    • EM: Griffiths 4.2, 4.3
    • LA: Lay 5.5
    • QM: Townsend Ch. 3

Week 15 PS#5/#2 Solutions Assignments

  • PS#5/#2 Solutions Assignments can be accessed here.
  • Note that you will need to be logged in to our program web-site to access the page linked above. If not logged-in, you can do so via this link.
  • Note that many problems (mostly from Griffiths 3.3) are assigned to more than one person. As we saw working through example problems, separation of variable problems for potential are challenging. So I thought that some backup made sense for collaborative solutions. People assigned to the same problem are welcome to work together and submit one solution, or work separately and submit two.

Week 15 Problem Sets: EM#5, LA#5, QM#2

(this post bumped to top to reflect updates)

Problem Sets to be completed in your corresponding PSNs by noon Sun. Feb. 12.

  • EM PS#5: Griffiths: 3.13, 3.15, 3.18, 3.23, 3.26, 4.4, 4.5, 4.6, 4.8, 4.9. (For 4.9 do direct calculations, don’t just invoke Newton’s 3rd law, though certainly your results should be consistent with N3)
  • LA PS#5: Lay 5.3: 4, 6, 10, 12, 18, 24, 26, 28, 32
  • QM PS#2: Townsend: 2.3, 2.6, 2.7, 2.9, 2.11, 2.12(d), 2.15, 2.16, 2.17, 2.19, 2.20
  • For EM, there are 10 problems this week, not the normal 12. The Chapter 3 problems are likely to be particularly time-consuming.
  • For LA/QM, there are 20 problems this week, not the normal 24. This mostly reflects our lost time this week. Depending on how far we get in QM on Thursday, some of the problems from that assignment might be postponed.

Weather Delay! Tue. Feb. 7, 2017

  • Due to weather, campus is closed until 10am. If you judge that conditions are too dangerous for you to make it from your home to campus, please value your safety above class attendance.
  • PSAM will not have its morning class at all this morning.
  • The quiz that would have been administered this morning is now available as a take-home quiz; see this post.
  • Since we are not meeting at all this morning, I would like to start class at noon and end at 3pm. We’ll meet in the Cave today, not the CAL. I think the noon start time won’t be a problem if you are able to make it to campus today (see first bullet point above). I’m hoping continuing to 3pm won’t be a problem (but if you need to leave at 2:30, then do so). We’ll take some breaks during that time, which won’t consist solely of lecture.
  • I’ve also posted about some supplementary resources.
  • This week’s homework assignment is partially posted, so you could get started on that.
