GRE MC Jamboree

Many MC questions on quizzes, quixams, and exams this year have come from released GRE Physics subject tests.

  • For EM PS#18 and QM PS#15, you have been assigned one of the 5 released exams (see below).
  • Look through your assigned exam, and identify questions that are relevant to Griffiths Chapter 12 and Townsend Chapter 10 and Chapter 11. Use your best judgment.
  • Enter into this spreadsheet. Note the different tabs for each of EM Ch. 12, QM Ch. 10, QM Ch. 11.
  • Do your best to figure out the correct answer. If you can’t figure out the correct answer but can narrow it down to fewer choices, indicate that as well.
  • Feel free to contribute for exams you are not assigned.

Week 29 Problem Sets (last of the program!): EM#18, QM#15

Problem Sets to be completed in your corresponding PSNs by noon Sun. June 3. These are the last Problem Sets of PSAM!

  • EM PS#18: Griffiths: 12.44, 12.46, 12.47, 12.48, 12.66, 12.68, GRE MC Jamboree. Notes: for 12.48(c), you will want to review the Doppler shift for light; for 12.66, you may find it convenient to choose a coordinate system so that E points in the z direction and B is in the yz plane, such that E = (0, 0, E) and B = (0, B cos φ, B sin φ).
  • QM PS#15: Townsend: 11.6, 11.10, 11.12, 11.14, 11.16, GRE MC Jamboree. Notes: 11.14 canceled from assignment.

Science Carnival Sign-ups

Sign-up sheet for Science Carnival available here.

  • Advanced Lab Project students are Experts on their projects.
  • Other students will serve as Support for the Experts.
  • All students are expected to participate in Science Carnival, either as Experts or Support and also through attending non-PSAM presentations.
  • My suggestion is that Experts are presenting for half an hour, then on break for half an hour, then presenting for half an hour, then on break for half an hour, etc.
  • My suggestion is that Support sign up for a full hour, so they are with the Expert for the first half hour and then without the Expert for the second half hour.
  • Support folks should sign up for 2 1-hour slots.

EM#15, EM#16 Problem Set Collaborative Solutions with notes

  • I’ve added notes to your Collaborative Problem Set Solutions for EM PS#15 and EM PS#16; please recall that you need to be logged in to access these.
  • Please compare the solutions in your Problem Set Notebook to these solutions, updating or correcting as you need to. If you disagree or would like further clarification, please send me an email.
  • I’ll do a spot check of your EM PSN for EM PS#15 and PS#16, so please bring with you and leave on the front table in the CAL during Quixam! 4E. If you didn’t submit for an earlier EM PSN check but have that for me to check, please flag it clearly somehow, and I’ll check as well. Similarly for your QM PSN.
  • If you think you’ve missed submitting for any spot checks, check in with me and I can let you know what you’ve missed.
