I-F: Putting equality at the center of educational development work

Sem II-B 3107

Wendi Dew (Valencia College) and Jonathan Walker (George Washington University)

In a learning-centered environment we ask “Are students learning and how?” In an equity-minded environment we add the question “and for whom?” This approach requires that we disaggregate data, consider students identities, and articulate the differences between equality and equity. An equity lens requires us to design systematic and individualized approaches to educational development. In this workshop, the facilitators will share national research and model the ways in which they have made equity a foundational design principle in professional development programs on their campuses. Participants will be invited to share their own challenges and successes.
