Dale Oliver, Bori Mazzag, and David Tuttle – Humboldt State University
Since Humboldt State was first designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) in 2014, faculty-led innovations in the College of Natural Resources and Sciences are helping to move the institution from Hispanic-enrolling to Hispanic-serving. Partnering with ESCALA, a consortium of higher education consultants based in the U.S. Southwest who work with HSIs to close the gap in educational access and student success of underrepresented students in STEM fields, individual faculty are transforming their course structures and pedagogies to better serve our changing student population. In this presentation, we highlight some of the mechanisms for reflective practice that have led to individual and collective insights on how our actions affect student learning.
