III-G Sustainable learning-centered professional development

Many of the projects proposed by TLNI campus teams entail significant commitments to professional development for faculty and staff. But what does that look like? This session will explore professional development models that are organized around two important shifts. First, we’ll look at ways to move from a deficit model (where teaching needs “fixing”) to one that builds on the interests and aspirations educators bring to their work with students and one another. Second, in keeping with recent research on best practices in professional development, we’ll explore the shift from “one-shot” teaching workshops and brown-bag sessions to more sustained opportunities that are built into the way the institution operates as a learning organization.
