I am currently in my fourth year as the Integrative Learning Coordinator at Skagit Valley College, where we continue to have an integrative learning degree requirement for our Arts & Sciences students.  Our institutional transition to a Guided Pathways approach in recent years has presented a number of challenges and opportunities related to integrative learning, and we are well on our way to developing the structures, policies, and procedures needed to deliver high-quality integrative learning options in the context of guided pathways.

Prior to and overlapping with my integrative learning role, I served as Assessment Liaison, chaired an Assessment Taskforce, and was involved in the revision of our general education outcomes (including two years chairing our General Education Committee).  I also served on our Achieving the Dream Data and Core Teams and chaired the workgroup that created the recommendation for our now-required First Quarter Experience.  Because I apparently don’t like myself, I am now the co-lead negotiator for our faculty union (this is meant to be funny).

I earned both my BA in Economics and MBA from Western Washington University, and have been teaching at Skagit Valley College since 2010. While there is little I enjoy more than spending time with my wife and our children, it is teaching and working with students on campus that motivates me to spend a significant amount of time engaging both formal and informal institutional structures to advocate for (and hopefully help facilitate) needed reforms over time.
