The Evergreen State College has appointed MPA faculty member Meghan Doughty as a regular faculty member on a continuing contract, a process known as conversion.  Similar to tenure at other institutions, faculty who are converted receive a contract of indefinite term to serve as a faculty member with the College.  To be converted, Evergreen faculty must demonstrate excellence in their professional responsibilities to the College and community, including teaching well, participating in the governance of academic programs, providing public service, and contributing to scholarly and creative endeavors. Faculty are evaluated for conversion after a probationary period of at least three years by a panel of their faculty peers, who rigorously review their syllabi and other teaching materials, student and peer evaluations of teaching, and record of service to the College, their academic discipline, and the public at large. Successful conversion demonstrates the confidence of one’s students and peers in the quality of the faculty member’s teaching and service.

Since her appointment as an MPA faculty member in fall of 2018, Dr. Doughty has developed an impressive record of accomplishment. Her teaching spans Evergreen’s public administration curriculum, including experience in teaching both years of the MPA core program; teaching elective and concentration courses in tribal governance, public administration ethics, social equity, criminal justice, and public policy; and supervising numerous students in individual learning contracts (ILCs). Dr. Doughty is recognized for her scholarship on administrative burden in journals such as the American Review of Public AdministrationPerspectives on Public Management and Governance, and the Indigenous Policy Journal.  Dr. Doughty also serves as a member of Evergreen’s Faculty Agenda Committee, which organizes and facilitates faculty governance of the College, including Evergreen faculty meetings. We are excited that Dr. Doughty has achieved this milestone in her career!
