Applications for the 2026-2027 American Indian Endowed Scholarship (AIES) award now are available online at https://wsac.wa.gov/american-indian-endowed-scholarship.

From the WSAC AIES web page hyperlinked above, open the “How do I apply?” tab and click the highlighted “online AIES Portal” link. Applicants will be redirected to the AIES Portal to create a secure login and password if they already do not have one, which then allows access to the online application form.

To be eligible to apply, an applicant must:

  • Have close social and cultural ties to an American Indian tribe or community in Washington state
  • Intend to use his or her education to benefit the American Indian community in this state
  • Be enrolled as a full-time student for the 2026-27 academic year, beginning fall term, at a participating college or university in-state
  • Have demonstrated financial need (as determined by the college financial aid office, per FAFSA)
  • Be a Washington state resident
  • Have not received a total of five years of this scholarship

The program includes a priority for upper-division and graduate-level students, however, all qualified applicants are considered. Additional information is described in the application instructions on the website. IMPORTANT: Incomplete or late applications will not be reviewed by the selection committee.

The selection committee composed of representatives from the American Indian community in-state will review and score the applications. The number of scholarships and values awarded for the year are based on the amount of interest earnings available in the endowment. Scholarships generally range between $500 to $3,000 each for the academic year. Finalists are announced later in the spring.

Submit the completed application, with required attachments, by Monday, March 2, 2026.
