We hope you are excited about learning first year general chemistry, college physics (calculus based), and calculus in this year-long interdisciplinary program.

Pre-calculus is a pre-requisite for this program.  Please make sure you review pre-calculus over the summer so you are ready to start calculus in the fall. Knowledge of chemistry or physics is NOT required.

Please note: Our first class meeting is on Monday, September 26th, 9:30-11 AM in SEMINAR II A, Room 2105. We will administer the math assessment test on this day.  Failing to attend will result in being dropped from the program.

Math Test

The long awaited PreCalcAssessment is now available. Please take this self-graded test and bring your answer sheet to class on the first day.

A similar test will be given on the first day of class to ensure your readiness for M&M. You will be advised accordingly based on your performance in this test. The key to success in this program is your preparedness to take calculus. We advise you to take this seriously this summer so you can enjoy your learning in the fall quarter.

Course alternatives:

  • If you are unprepared to take calculus, please consider the Introduction to Natural Science program.
  • Another option is Mathematics in Geology , which will cover a year of precalculus along with the geology. Mathematics in Geology would be a good course to prepare you to take Matter & Motion in 2017-16.
  • There are also General Chemistry courses available if you are not calculus ready, but would like to take chemistry.
