“A New Middle East?: Diagrams, Diagnosis, and Power” was a year-long program offered during the 2015-2016 academic year at The Evergreen State College where the students had the privilege to study the complex matters surrounding the Middle East.

Thirty students worked on individual research papers within five broader working groups. The topics of the working groups are the Syrian Civil War, ISIS, Israel/Palestine, Islamophobia, and Gender and Sexuality issues. Along with individual research papers, students in the working groups developed policy proposals and created podcasts which contain interviews with subject matter experts. The students and professors have worked on a massive diagram in which we have attempted to map out the interconnected and complex relationships between the various elements within the Middle East.
