Duties Include
 
•    Conducting standardized public health inspections of non-tribal and tribal licensed commercial shellfish harvester, shellstock shipper, and shucker-packer facilities to ensure compliance with state, tribal, and the National Shellfish Sanitation Program requirements.

•    Performing pre-operational, routine, certification, and follow up inspections for compliance issues and corrective action plans.

•    Inspecting shellfish operations for compliance to Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) plans and monitoring records, Harvest Site Certification, shellfish identification, sanitation standard operating procedures and monitoring records, to support documentation for program compliance.

•    Reviewing commercial shellfish operations’ documentation for accuracy.

•    Provides technical assistance consultation to shellfish operators regarding interpretation of laws and regulations and recommendations for improvements.

•    Assisting, coordinating and writings enforcement documents.

•    Instructing and leading other inspectors on enforcement program requirements to ensure consistency.

•    Ensuring all enforcement actions have the proper citations listed from WAC, RCW, and the National Shellfish Sanitation Program (NSSP).

•    Acting as liaison with Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) regarding enforcement activities.

•    Processing export certificate requests in accordance with state and federal regulations and in a timely manner.

•    Monitoring the Shellfish Inbox and seeks resolution for each email that enters on an assigned day.

Required Qualifications
•    A Bachelor’s Degree in public health, environmental health or closely allied science with a minimum of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours in natural or physical science.

•    Two (2) years professional experience in environmental public health and/or environmental health principles.

•    Two (2) or more years of experience interpreting and applying public health requirements and procedures relating to food safety, inspections, environmental science, or marine aquaculture.

•    Experience effectively evaluating public health issues and making corrective action recommendations.  

•    One (1) or more years of professional experience working in enforcement actions.
