Centre College invites applications for a tenure-track position (rank and salary commensurate with experience) in Environmental Data Science to begin in August 2022. We are looking for an environmental scientist or engineer with expertise in data science methods (data mining/scraping, analytics, machine learning, and/or visualization) and research. We seek candidates who can enrich our course offerings and student experiences with expertise in one or more of the following fields: environmental physical sciences, environmental engineering, earth systems sciences (climate, atmosphere, geophysics, geology), ecological sciences, geographic information sciences (GIS), environmental quality, and/or other areas of environmental inquiry. Candidates at all stages of their career are encouraged to apply, and established candidates may be considered for a new named, endowed chair position.

The successful candidate will contribute to two programs experiencing noteworthy increases in student interest and growth, Data Science and Environmental Studies and Sciences. Both programs benefit from the inherently interdisciplinary nature of their fields and benefit from contributions from faculty experts across a wide range of disciplinary fields, including ecology and agroecology, soil science, mathematics, computer science, physics, environmental health, economics and policy, philosophy, history, sociology, and literary studies.

Candidates should be qualified and excited to teach courses in introductory environmental science (with lab), data science courses within their area of expertise, and courses that fulfill the sustainability requirement in the General Education curriculum. Collaborative research with undergraduates is expected and supported. The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. by the time of appointment (August, 2022) or an advanced degree with extensive practice within the field.
