) in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor to support our recently launched online Graduate Certificate and MA in Applied Environmental and Sustainability Studies. This is a non-tenure eligible position for the Spring 2023 and Fall 2023 academic terms with an anticipated starting date of January 1, 2023 and concluding on December 31, 2023 to allow for term preparation and concluding activities. There is an expectation that our new colleague will fully participate in meetings and typical department and program activities during the terms.

This position is an excellent opportunity to work with an interdisciplinary group of faculty and talented graduate students in the online Graduate Certificate and MA in Applied Environmental and Sustainability Studies. We encourage candidates with research and teaching expertise and interests in environmental and sustainability studies including, but not limited to, political ecology, sustainability science, environmental economics, or environmental policy, governance, and management. The position will require, among other tasks, curriculum development, course materials development, LMS online course shell development, and teaching courses in the online program. The successful candidate will be expected to teach three courses per semester. The anticipated distribution of effort will consist of 70% teaching, 20% research, and 10% service.

Successful candidates will hold a PhD in geography or a related social sciences or humanities discipline. We encourage candidates who have demonstrated experience in teaching, developing curricula in their field of expertise, and experience and interest in online teaching. Special attention will be given to candidates who have the demonstrable ability to develop new online courses and to create high quality and interactive learning experiences with students from a range of backgrounds.
