Powerful and Ethical Storytelling for Grantwriters

Your ability to relate the personal stories of your organization – both through spoken word and in writing – is essential to successful fundraising.

Not only do development professionals seek the tools to create a powerful story, it is  increasingly important to incorporate ethical storytelling principles into their appeals, grants and donor communications.

Join PSGA for an educational, thought-provoking, and entertaining (!) morning with 2 inspiring and forward-thinking experts on storytelling, Terry Wolfisch Cole and Cami Aurioles.  Learn how to tell a compelling story, all while using a community-centered framework that honors the communities you serve and galvanizes your donors to engage meaningfully.

This hands-on training will leave you with a deeper understanding of the value of ethical storytelling, why it’s important to incorporate a more community-centric voice in your writing, and the practical skills to enrich your writing and succeed at your fundraising goals. Please come equipped with a pen andpaper as well as an excerpt of a grant, donor letter or appeal.

You will learn:

  • Community-centric storytelling principles around framing, language and tone.
  • How ethical storytelling supports effective fundraising.
  • How to begin creating a culture of reciprocity, or a feedback loop with communities you serve.
  • The difference between a story and an anecdote.
  • The five beats of storytelling, and how to weave them into a grant narrative.
  • How to develop stories for everything from the perfect elevator pitch to a comprehensive case statement.
