Who We Are

Wild Diversity is a nonprofit organization that helps create a personal connection to the outdoors for Black, Indigenous, all People of Color (BIPOC) & the LGBTQ2S+ communities, through outdoor adventures and education. We welcome and support a sense of belonging for our communities. We host outdoor adventures, provide outdoor education, and facilitate community workshops for youth, adults and families. 

 

Wild Diversity coordinates over 100 events and serves over 1400 participant experiences each year. We have an amazing team of staff members, summer staff and 40 Adventure Guides who support our mission and ensure we continue our commitment to our community. We are in search of the right person to help this team grow.

The Position

Wild Diversity is thrilled to announce an opportunity to join our team as a Program Coordinator. We are actively seeking a dedicated individual to contribute significantly to both our youth and adult programs, fostering a profound sense of belonging within our BIPOC & LGBTQ+ communities. The selected Program Coordinator will play a crucial role in supporting these programs, working closely with the Co-Director of Operations.

 

Our Youth Summer Camps are more than just adventures; they are transformational experiences that lay the foundation for tomorrow’s environmental stewards. We provide themed weeks for youth that are field trip and adventure based. These weeks are either day camps M-F from 9AM-5PM or are overnight. 

 

Our Guided Adventures for adults and families are setting the gold standard for inclusive outdoor experiences. We are industry leaders in offering a warm welcome to the BIPOC & LGBTQ community, catering to both outdoor novices and those seeking a sense of belonging in the world of adventure. Our diverse array of experiences includes:

  • Day trips that provide a tantalizing taste of outdoor exploration.
  • Themed and family campouts for unforgettable overnight adventures.
  • Backpacking excursions for a deeper connection with nature.
  • Single and multi-day paddling excursions for water enthusiasts.

General Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Applicants must be 21 years of age or older to be considered 
  • Motor Vehicle/Background Check Clearance
  • Successful completion of paid Field Staff Training is mandatory, providing essential skills and knowledge for the role.
  • Experience in an administrative role
  • Passion for fostering inclusivity and belonging within outdoor adventures.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with adventure planning and coordination.
  • Ability to adhere to and enforce organizational policies and procedures.
  • Ability to learn and facilitate effective debrief sessions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in alignment with Wild Diversity community values

Primary Responsibilities:

 

  • Youth Program Support:
    • Enhance the youth curriculum to ensure engaging and educational experiences.
    • Assist in the planning and coordination of youth adventures.
    • Ensure adherence to organizational policies and procedures.
  • Adventure Liaison:
    • Act as the primary contact person within the organization for Adventure Guides, Field Staff, and Parents of Youth.
    • Facilitate communication and coordination between various stakeholders.
    • Assist in the planning and coordination of adult adventures.
  • Adult Adventure Support:
    • Ensure field staff have all necessary information and documentation for adult adventures.
    • Conduct adventure debriefs at the conclusion of each adult adventure.
    • Complete adventure debrief training. 
  • Parent Liaison:
    • Communicate effectively with parents to ensure participants are well-prepared for upcoming adventures.
    • Provide regular updates before, during, and after adventures.
  • On-Call Support Staff
    • Complete On-Call Support Staff Training
    • Have availability on evenings and weekends for adventure check ins and emergencies.

Hiring Process and Job Details:

 

Interviews: Qualified applicants will undergo interviews conducted between December and February. This thorough process ensures that we select individuals whose values and skills align seamlessly with the mission and objectives of Wild Diversity.

 

Job Offer: In January and February, the job offer will be sent out. These offers are contingent on the successful completion of our comprehensive training program.. The training period is a vital phase during which guides will enhance their risk management skills, delve into participant management practices, increase their capacity to work effectively with diverse populations, and gain a thorough understanding of Wild Diversity’s policies and procedures. The training is designed to prepare our guides for a successful and impactful adventure season.

 

Schedule:

Full-Time: 30-40 hours a week.

Working Hours: Monday-Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM.

Location: Candidates should either reside in Portland, Oregon, or be willing to relocate.

Hybrid Work Option: This position can be hybrid, with a minimum of 60% of time spent in the office or in the field. The hybrid work agreement is subject to supervisor approval.

 

Compensation:

Hourly Rate: $22-29/hour, depending on experience.

Benefits:

  2. Paid Time Off (PTO) effective after 3 months.

  5. 4-day schedule Shoulder Season (Oct-Dec) with full-time pay

Marketing Coordinator

This individual will be at the forefront of presenting a compelling and cohesive brand image to our community, stakeholders, and the public. In addition to executing our robust branding strategy across social media platforms and newsletters, the Marketing Coordinator will assume a crucial role in fostering digital connections within our community. Responsibilities

  • Understands emerging platforms, digital media, and web/social media management and measurement tools.
  • Work within the Marketing and Branding Team to refine social media strategies and best practices.
  • Create and manage a marketing calendar to ensure content is timely, relevant, and engaging.
  • Explore, create content, engage and manage relevant social media channels (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok).
  • Draft bi-weekly e-newsletters/blog posts.
  • Assist and create robots marketing campaigns for our fundraisers events.
  • Prepare bi-weekly updates and reports to track growth and success rates of campaigns.
  • Keep up to date and informed on new social media trends and adapt accordingly.
  • Ensure proper brand messaging and presentation is being executed online.
  • Assist with website copywriting, proofing, and updating as needed.
  • Update and manage our SEOs across platforms. 
  • Ensure that our ‘customer’ journey stays updated and meets the needs of our marketing strategies.
  • Create and manage community outreach strategies with the Program Team.
  • Manage and engage Wild Diversity’s digital community via our forum.
  • Other related responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • A heart for Wild Diversity’s mission, a strong commitment to creating welcoming spaces for the BIPOC and LGBTQ2S+ communities in the outdoors.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, PR or equivalent work experience.
  • 3-5 years progressive work experience in marketing and community relations.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency, website (Squarespace), social navigation, and SEO knowledge required.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to analyze details and data efficiently and effectively.
  • Strong leadership qualities, the ability to both delegate and execute.
  • Strong graphic design skills and an eye for photography .
  • Proven performance in the development and implementation of marketing strategies and successful campaigns. 
  • A talent for big-picture thinking and managing all the moving parts of a cross-functional marketing, communications, and development group at a growing organization.
  • Strategic Thinking – Develops strategies to achieve organizational goals; Understands organization’s strengths and weaknesses; Analyzes market and competitive landscape; Identifies external threats and opportunities; Adapts strategy to changing conditions

The Development Director will spearhead donor and corporate sponsorship stewardship, engaging in strategic prospecting and meticulous management to ensure sustained support. Collaborating seamlessly with our Grants Manager, Marketing Coordinator, and reporting directly to our Co-Director of Strategic Initiatives, this individual will be a linchpin in orchestrating a harmonious and impactful approach to advancing our mission. Responsibilities

  • Create and implement our strategic fundraising plan, including major gifts, planned giving, multi-year pledges, corporate donations, events, and in-kind resources.
  • Direct and support the fundraising efforts of the Board, volunteers, and staff.
  • Pursue corporate sponsorships, and other funding sources that support Wild Diversity’s mission.
  • Develop and provide leadership to annual giving programs, direct mail, matching gifts, monthly giving, and online giving.
  • Lead efforts in private and corporate foundation giving through research, relationship building, identifying, cultivating, and securing new donors.
  • Responsible for overseeing, developing, and implementing all giving programs at the organization.
  • Experienced in large corporate philanthropic strategic partnership & and stewardship, oversee the management of the annual calendar of key public and private grants, foundations, and public partners, including the development of prospecting processes to regularly identify new prospective funders and create engagement plans.
  • Lead the project management of proposal creation, follow-up conversations, and gift closures.
  • Develop and manage a portfolio of major and planned giving donors and prospects
  • Create and implement cultivation and stewardship strategies for campaign, major, and planned giving donors
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with major and planned giving donors and prospects, including regular communication and personalized engagement
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the major and planned giving program and make recommendations for improvements as needed
  • Attend and participate in some scheduled Board meetings, Board and staff retreats.
  • Cocreate and implement a capital campaign for our strategic plan implementation.
