Job Description

Incumbent will implement an anadromous fish monitoring and evaluation project for the Hood River Production Program. Field duties include operating adult and juvenile fish traps; marking fish with various tags; tracking fish movements with PIT and radio telemetry equipment; measuring presence and abundance of salmonoids in the wild using snorkel, electrofishing and spawning surveys; water quality and quantity measurements; hatchery smolt quality measurements. Incumbent will also be responsible for data summary, data analysis and technical report writing. Will assist with other Hood River projects, including environmental education and stream habitat restoration, to help fulfill the CTWS mission to restore salmon and steel head fisheries in the Hood River Basin.

Requirements

– Master’s Degree in fisheries science or closely related field and at least 3 years of related experience, or Bachelor’s Degree in fisheries science or closely related field and at least 5 years of related experience. 
 
– Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
 
– Good interpersonal skills. Able to follow detailed directions both written and oral.
 
– Required to receive and pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.

Willamette Lamprey Biologist, will develop and implement lamprey projects/studies in the Willamette River Basin from the Willamette Falls Field office located in Oregon City. Work involves overseeing field technicians, leading field research studies for escapement estimates, harvest estimates, and larval distribution. Develop contract budgets and statements of work. Supervise project personnel. Represent the tribes at regional fisheries -related coordination meetings and working groups.

The main focus of this job is to monitor and report results of passive and active restoration projects completed by the Fish Habitat Program and supervise a three-person seasonal field crew that maintains riparian protection fence and assists with monitoring. Job Summary & Responsibilities

Develop and maintain soil research data. Recommend programs for soil management. Gather data, analyze, evaluate, and prepare soil science reports. Review project proposals to protect soil resources. Provide technical assistance to other agencies. Complete environmental assessments and planning activities to include watershed assessments, watershed plans, and wetland program plans. Develop watershed assessments and sub-watershed restoration plans in a manner that is consistent with the Integrated Resource Management Plan, funding requirements, and Tribal priorities for restoration and water quality improvements. Support program development through grant acquisition.

 

Requirements

Must have a Bachelors of Science degree in Natural Resources/Environmental Science or a related field to soil science, hydrology, wetland, watershed studies, or fisheries. Requires some technical courses in soil science, hydrology/watershed management and wetlands. Two years of related experience is required beyond education requirements or additional completion of a Masters degree in a related field. Must possess or ability to possess a valid Oregon driver’s license. Will be required to submit to and pass a pre-employment drug screening, driving and tribal background check.
