The Workers Compensation Specialist (HRC3) will be responsible for providing consultation services to employees and managers and managing the day-to-day activities in the areas of workers’ compensation claims, return to work, protected leave (FMLA, Shared Leave), and reasonable accommodation. Join our growing team of human resource professionals as State Parks’ Workers’ Compensation expert! Duties
Under the direction of the HRC4- Protected Leave Specialist, this position serves as a  leave expert for the agency and is responsible for guiding and overseeing all requests related to workers’ compensation claims, return to work, protected leave (FMLA, PFML, Shared Leave), and reasonable accommodations. 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate the agency workers’ compensation claims and return to work efforts.  
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders, including managers, employees, safety & HR staff, medical providers, and L&I staff, to actively manage claims and coordinate job modifications, accommodations, leave, and other return to work issues based on medical restrictions.  
  • Actively work with managers and supervisors to evaluate the work of the agency to identify light duty work assignments.
  • Maintain injury, claims, and employee medical records and reports in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. 
  • Coordinate the agency’s Stay At Work Program, working directly with L&I and actively applying for refunds through gathering and presenting of necessary documentation.
  • Provide consultation advice, guidance, and support to agency managers, supervisors, and staff regarding a variety of complex leave programs to include protected leave (FMLA, PFML, Shared Leave and other related leave programs).
  • Administer SmartHealth Program within the Parks and Recreation.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Public Administration, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or closely related field.**
  • Two (2) year of full-time, professional-level experience providing guidance and consultation on human resource issues including one (1) year of experience providing guidance and consultation on workers compensation claims, protected leave and reasonable accommodation.

**Additional qualifying experience may substitute year for year for education.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficient in Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Experience reading, understanding, interpreting, and applying federal and state laws and rules, human resource policies and procedures, and other authoritative guidance.
  • Ability to work with others who have a wide range of abilities, backgrounds, and experience.
  • Ability to effectively manage and respond to frequent and rapid changes in workload and priorities.
  • S/PHR or IMPA-HR certification
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification
