Description
The McCall Subregion is seeking to fill up to four (4) Wildlife Technician positions that will assist with population monitoring of northern Idaho ground squirrels, a federally threatened species, in west-central Idaho. Field work is primarily systematic distance-based line transect surveys with possibly some very limited live trapping for mark-recapture or genetic studies.

General Information
Applicants must be able to work outdoors under a range of environmental conditions, hike for 4+ hours across moderate terrain, follow established protocols, be flexible, and have good eyesight and high frequency hearing to effectively detect small mammals with or without reasonable accommodations. All positions are full-time (40 hours/week). Weekly work schedule is entirely weather-dependent. Applicants must be willing to flex their workdays and work a split shift most days. Training in conducting surveys and capturing and handling ground squirrels is provided.

Housing provided in shared bunkhouse, cabins, or camp trailer in Council or Bear, Idaho.
Work vehicle provided.

Dates Needed:
• April 3 to June 10, 2022 – (2 positions)
• April 3 to July 22, 2022 – (2 positions)

Responsibilities: Technicians will be part of a 4–5-person crew conducting line-transect distance-based surveys. Additional responsibilities include maintaining accurate field records, entering and proofing survey and waypoint data, tracking progress on completing target surveys, and data summary.

Qualifications: It is preferred that applicants have a B.S. degree in biological sciences, natural resources, or related field, with some field experience OR demonstrated field experience with small mammal surveys or trapping. Some experience with ArcMap is preferred for the 3 April – 22 July position. Some experience driving 4WD pickup trucks is also preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license.
