Our Environmental Planner 4,

  • Leads development of new wildlife area management plans.
  • Coordinates wildlife, cross-program and regional staff work as project manager and technical team member.
  • Leads integration of wildlife, habitat and fish program priorities and disciplines including weed management, ecological integrity, recreation management, forest management, travel management, climate, and Section 6 requirements, where appropriate.
  • Directs team and cross-program/division staff and leads land planner meetings – coordinates document production with public affairs, communication, and GIS teams.
  • Supports development and implementation of the agency’s recreation strategy for managed lands.
  • Researches, analyzes, and develops proposal/reports/recommendations including rules and policies.
  • Works collaboratively with cross-program team to evaluate and refine recreation strategies and processes and supports team with statewide outreach effort.
  • Manages recreation-related rulemaking, policymaking, and program development.
  • Supports legislation-related work during and preceding legislative sessions.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work Setting, including hazards:    
  1. Work is performed in an office environment – frequent sitting or standing in a cubicle working at a computer keyboard for most of the day.
  2. Occasional lifting and moving paper records and boxes weighing up to 40 pounds short distances.
  • Schedule:   
    1. Typically, work schedule is 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday.
  • Travel Requirements: 
    1. Occasional and as needed, for site visits to agency lands.
  • Tools and Equipment: 
  1. Computer, scanner, copier, FAX
  • Customer Interactions:
  1. Daily email and telephone/teleconference engagement with agency staff, stakeholder groups and the public regarding land priorities, programs, and projects.
  2. Interactions with the general public; may encounter questions or comments about the Discover Pass program.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Master’s degree or above with major emphasis in environmental planning, natural resource science, parks and recreation planning, environmental studies, communications, public administration, or closely related field.

AND

  • Three (3) years of professional experience involving environmental analysis, planning, policy development or community Outreach.

OR

  • One (1) year of experience as an Environmental Planner 3

OR

  • Professional experience in a related field will substitute year-for-year for education OR a combination of education/experience.

Certifications/Licenses: 

  • Valid Driver’s License.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience: 

  • Leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams in delivery of successful plans and projects.
  • Leading high-profile projects or processes that generate significant public and stakeholder interest.
  • Working with and for government agencies, including state government.
  • Developing and managing budgets and managing consultant contracts.
  • Writing and editing content for web and print materials.
  • Developing and editing content for proposals, collateral, technical reports, high level messaging, and presentations.
  • Successfully developing, implementing, and directing conceptual design and strategy for stakeholder outreach/involvement plans and/or public information programs.
  • Developing state government plans and policies
  • Leading multidisciplinary teams

Knowledge of:

  • Policies and programs related to recreation (with emphasis on outdoor recreation) at the Federal, State, and local levels and environmental resource plans.
  • Logic models and planning principles, techniques, current trends, environmental laws, policies, and programs concerning all phases of state resource development.
