Copperhead Environmental Consulting is expanding our team and actively seeking a Wetland Scientist to join our family of professional consultants. We are seeking a candidate who is looking to develop a long-term career in the environmental consulting industry and is open to diversification across the company. Responsibilities may include performing field work for wetland and stream delineations and erosion and sediment control inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field work for wetland and stream delineations
  • Identify plants, soil types, and hydrological characteristics
  • Prepare technical reports summarizing field findings
  • Assist in the preparation of Section 404/401 permit applications
  • Conduct inspections of active construction sites to ensure compliance with state, client, and site-specific erosion and sediment control measures
  • Provide business development efforts to expand client base
  • Learn other aspects of environmental consulting
  • Be a mentor to other staff & be mentored on the job
  • Improve and increase specific skill sets

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Botany, or related field
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of progressive experience in wetland delineation
  • Strong knowledge of wetlands, plant identification, and aquatic resources
  • Knowledge of GPS submeter units and application, such as TerraSync, ArcPad, and Collector
  • Candidates with a QHP certification will be given top consideration
  • Strong technical writing, organization, and time management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to travel on short notice, at night, and/or on weekends, and potentially for extended periods of time
  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Must be able to thrive in a self-directed manner
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to promote Copperhead’s services internally and externally
  • Ability to take initiative, resolve problems and ensure tasks are completed in the most effective and safe manner possible
  • Ability to work as a member of a team as well as independently to make decisions and complete tasks in the most effective and safe manner possible
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license

Additional Preferable Skills & Certifications Include:

  • Knowledge of applicable and relevant local, state, and federal regulations including the Clean Water Act (Section 404/401), Endangered Species Act, National Environmental Policy Act, National Historic Preservation Act, Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act
  • Completion of a wetland delineation course in line with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Regulatory Program or Wetland Delineator/Delineation Certificate from an accredited organization
  • Experience conducting field surveys for federal or state listed species
  • Proficiency with Trimble GPS units
  • Completed 40-hour PEC Safeland Training
  • Certification as a Wetland Professional In-Training by the Society of Wetlands Scientists
  • Certification as a Certified Erosion, Sediment, and Stormwater Inspector
