How to be Successful in the Role: 
Your experience in team leadership, data management (including GIS), and handling complex workloads will be key to thriving in this role. You’ll foster a collaborative atmosphere within your team, utilizing your skills in coaching and effective communication to guide your team through inspections, technical assistance, and public outreach. Your expertise in stormwater management and surface water protection will empower you to deliver impactful public education. Proficiency in MS Office, project tracking software (e.g., Smartsheet), and GIS tools will help you keep projects on track, making this a dynamic role where your technical and leadership skills will truly shine.

Core Daily Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and guide your team, setting schedules, workflows, and ensuring quality control across tasks.
  • Oversee the creation of key documents such as progress reports, program updates, and standard operating procedures for stormwater management.
  • Lead the development of strategic plans, special studies, and reports, while managing project scopes, budgets, and timelines.
  • Ensure thorough inspections, best practice implementations, and compliance with county standards.
  • Manage work assignments, reporting requirements, and support staff training to maintain consistency and quality.
  • Present vital information to the public, advisory committees, and represent Pierce County in meetings and working groups.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Additional education or experience may substitute for the recruiting requirements.
  • A resume and cover letter are required for consideration.
  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in science, engineering, planning, public administration, or related field, AND
  • Five or more years of related work experience, especially in stormwater and NPDES permitting. 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous water, wastewater or stormwater experience is highly desired.
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Experience in managing complex projects or programs.
