Position Description

Tacoma Water has a great opportunity for a Water Program Specialist; this role is currently a project of limited duration.

As the Water Program Specialist in this position, the incumbent will research, plan, develop, implement, and manage the new Tacoma Water conservation grant and loan program on property side pipe replacement. This role interacts with external agencies and represents the City in meetings with outside agencies regarding program issues.

The successful incumbent will direct facilitation with customers through all phases of the grant or loan application, approval, construction, invoice, repayment and compliance. This role also supports water programs and conservation activities that accomplish Tacoma Water goals in accordance with the state’s mandate.

This is an autonomous role where the incumbent will work independently and with little direction to meet timelines and deliver a high level of customer service to support the water conservation program, business practices of the Departments, needs of the customer, and mission of Tacoma Water. This role requires working both in the office and the field to assist customers.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage the Water conservation grant and loan program
  • Provide property-side pipe consultation and extraordinary customer support
  • Enforce loan payment compliance
  • Conceptualize, develop, write and produce water conservation and leak education and outreach materials
  • Conduct water conservation and leak program education and outreach activities
  • Water program continuous improvement

Qualifications

Desired Qualifications are an equivalent combination to:

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university (related work experience may substitute for a degree on a year-for-year basis);
  • 3+ years progressively responsible experience in program development, project development, and/or informing and educating the public on public policy issues;
  • Loan and grant experience;
  • Potable water building supply pipe experience;
  • Bi-lingual applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

Licensing, Certifications And Other Legal Requirements

Positions require ability to regularly travel within a 30 mile radius, occasionally travel within a 50 mile radius, and rarely travel within a 300 mile radius of Tacoma.
