JOB SUMMARY

The Sustainability Program Manager actively supports the implementation of the university’s sustainability strategic plan and its vision of catalyzing university-wide engagement to prepare St. Thomas students to be sustainability leaders. This position will coordinate with students and staff to develop resources, trainings, and activities that engage all students and members of the St. Thomas community in sustainability initiatives. This position will supervise a team of student leaders and provide project management support for peer education and engagement activities. This position also gathers data for sustainability assessments; and develops annual reports, proposals to funders, and communications for internal and external audiences.  

The preferred start date is January 2022. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Coordinate the student sustainability leadership program by supervising a team of eight to twelve student workers. Provide training, review and editing of student work, and project management support for their efforts to engage all students in sustainability initiatives on campus.
  2. Collaborate with students and employees to plan and organize sustainability events, trainings, and activities throughout the year. This includes sustainability orientation activities for incoming students, training for Residence Hall advisors, first-year experience co-curricular options, activities for sustainability week, national campus sustainability month, season of creation, and a sustainability presence at campus events such as sports games, homecoming, activities fair, etc.
  3. Support implementation of the university’s sustainability strategic plan through research, project assistance, development of resources, training and engagement of employees across departments, collecting data for sustainability performance assessments, developing annual progress updates, and preparing grant proposals and reports. 
  4. Create educational and promotional materials by writing, editing, updating, and designing content for digital fliers, social media posts, web articles, sustainability guides, and trainings.   
  5. Maintain external and internal websites and social media platforms with current information about the university’s sustainability initiatives, goals, policies, programs, events, activities and resources.
  6. Assist with administrative tasks such as procurement of materials, room and food reservations, meeting logistics, and note-taking.


QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in sustainability, environmental studies, business management, leadership, marketing, education, or another relevant field.
  • Three years of experience with sustainability planning, student engagement, supervision of students, project management and assessment, preferably in higher education. 
  • Fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or eligible for legally required exemption such as a medical or religious reason.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Administrative support, development of work plans, collaborative work in cross-functional teams, event planning, data collection, website development, communication campaigns, writing of project proposals and annual reports.
  • Experience with AASHE STARS reporting, graphic design programs such as Canva or Illustrator, use of social media in a professional setting, intercultural communication, fostering an inclusive environment, working effectively with individuals of different backgrounds and abilities, developing and delivering effective presentations for multiple audiences.

An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may be substituted.
