The Sustainability Data Specialist will work within American Wood Council’s Markets & Sustainability program. This position will be focused on managing a product level LCA database for wood products manufacturers in the United States. The ideal candidate has life cycle assessment knowledge, experience in the building sector, is passionate sustainability about leveraging data and tools to drive strategy and transparency, is effective in communicating insights and recommendations, and has experience in project management.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Manage the maintenance of a life cycle assessments (LCA) database for US manufactured wood products consistent with ISO 21930. Ensure data collected is input appropriately into the LCA Commons
Work with wood products manufacturers to ensure annual data collection is completed on time and any technical questions around data entry are answered in a timely manner
Build partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, such as wood products manufacturers, consultants, other associations and wood products organizations, life cycle assessment tools, and ENGO’s working on issues around carbon management
Manage effort to identify granularity of Environmental Product Declaration development
Select and manage consultants to develop third party verified Environmental Product Declarations
Engage in LCA/EPD standard setting forums to ensure wood products are treated fairly. This includes ISO committees and other forums as issues emerge
Monitor the latest research, industry trends, and methodologies of life cycle assessments

Minimum Qualifications:

B.S. degree in data analysis and visualization emphasis such as in computer science, social sciences, physical sciences, math, engineering, statistics, and/or sustainability focused degree
3+ years of work experience in environmental analytics
Data analysis, visualization and interpretation skills, with demonstrated experience to self-manage complex program delivery
Communication skills
Experience working independently in a fast-paced environment
Experience with data management, critical analysis skills, and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications:

3+ years of work experience and subject matter expertise in life cycle assessments and sustainable supply chains, greenhouse gas accounting, or similar
Experience in GaBi, SimaPro, or other life cycle assessment software; as well as open source LCI/LCA data platforms
Experience with supply chain data management.
Experience presenting data and analytics insights to technical and non-technical audiences.

Location:

The work location is negotiable but Madison, WI is preferred. The selected person must also be willing to travel as needed (up to 20% of time).
