Summary

About the Position: Serves as the Chief, Natural Resources Management Section directing all aspects of environmental stewardship, environmental compliance, safety, sustainability, recreation, and dredged material management for resource planning/development at six multiple-use operating projects and Puget Sound open water disposal sites.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the senior specialist and District authority for park administration, planning, and management.
  • Serve as a first-level supervisor over the Natural Resources Management Section exercising the full range of supervisory and managerial responsibilities.
  • Ensure compliance with natural resources management laws, policies and regulations as they pertain to outdoor recreation, environment quality, project and personnel safety, and dredged material management.
  • Establish and monitor staffing and budgeting requirements for the section.
  • Provide technical advice on, or implementation of, national Corps programs at the District level to implement mandates from US Army Corps of Engineers, Headquarters (HQUSACE) and Division.
  • Develops and establishes overall policy for operating projects for natural resources and recreational planning, development, and management.

    Basic Requirement for Supervisory Natural Resources Specialist (0401):

    A. Degree: Bachelor’s degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

    OR

    B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

    In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

    Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience providing technical support for a natural resources management program in two or more of the following areas: recreation, sustainability, environmental protection, fish and wildlife, land management, resource conservation, cultural and historical resources, environmental law compliance, or dredged material management. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

    Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone–no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

    Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
