As a Supervisory Hydrologist within the Washington Water Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

• Manages personnel measures in the Groundwater Systems Section, including career
  development, performance evaluations, complaint resolution, promotions, training, and awards.
• Participates in investigations to address groundwater systems, such as geohydrology, geochemistry, groundwater flow, hydraulics, surface-water flow, evapotranspiration, recharge, water use, or climate processes.
• Assures the technical adequacy and satisfactory conduct of all hydrologic studies, research, and related work in the Groundwater Systems Section.
• Writes scientific reports documenting the results of analyses and interpretations of hydrologic data.
• Cooperates with other Federal agencies and Partners to develop programs, plan studies, manage funding, organize work, and assign personnel to appropriate projects and tasks.

Physical Demands:

• Work assignments normally involves 90 percent office and 10 percent field effort. Office assignments are generally sedentary. Occasional physical activities required in field assignments, include walking, bending, stooping, and carrying stream gaging and chemical and biological sampling equipment. Field work may occasionally require lifting fairly heavy objects and wading in streams in all types of weather.

Work Environment:

• Office assignments normally involve everyday risk or discomforts that are typical of office meeting and training rooms, libraries, and residences or commercial vehicles. Work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Field work may expose hydrologist to potentially dangerous situations and exposure to moderate discomfort from such extremes as heat, cold, and inclement weather, particularly on flood trips during severe storms.

• Taking and passing a pre-employment medical examination at Federal expense is required due to the physical demands of this job.
