Summary

This temporary seasonal position (up to 6 months of work from May 2021-November 2021) will assist with grounds maintenance by maintaining lawns and landscape surrounding the treatment plant.

The work associated with this position will primarily be performed onsite; this is not a telework position. Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the Public Health Directive from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer.

Work Location: West Point Treatment Plant — 1400 Discovery Park Blvd., Seattle.

Work Schedule: This position can work up to 40 hours per week and is overtime eligible. Workweeks may vary depending on work assignment. Some shifts may include weekend work. Hours of operation are from 5:30 a.m. to midnight, Sunday through Saturday.

Job Duties

Duties include operating mowers, high-pressure washers, pruning tools, maintaining sprinklers and related equipment. Assist personnel in maintenance and cleaning of facilities including floors, windows, and various surfaces; hose various tanks, sidewalks, and surrounding areas. Assist maintenance and operations personnel by performing general laborer duties including clean-up, moving of furniture and equipment, and operating county vehicles.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Preferred skills and experience: 

  • Experience in the safe operation of hand and power tools

  • Experience in the safe operation of hedge trimmers

  • Experience in the safe operation of industrial pressure washers

  • Experience in the safe operation of power lawn mowers

  • Forklift certification (highly desired)

  • Pesticide certification / License (highly desired)

Required:

  • A valid and unencumbered driver’s license

  • A pre-employment physical, review of driving record and reference checks (to be completed prior to final job offer)
