Salary- $2,864.00 – $3,701.00 Monthly

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

  • Work Setting, including hazards:
    1. The primary work environment is outdoors, work is physically demanding, includes considerable driving and hiking into remote areas on private/public lands and field surveys are usually conducted alone on foot or in boats.
    2. When performing work in larger streams, crews are teamed up to work together – fieldwork is often done in inclement weather within varying stream flow and visibility conditions in a wide variety of terrain and stream conditions.
    3. Field work can be strenuous while walking in or along streams with slick boulders, crawling over logjams, wading across riffles with moderate/fast current or maneuvering watercrafts – should be able to occasionally lift and maneuver equipment such as boats into and out of vehicles that may weigh greater than 40 pounds.
  • Schedule:
    1. Work schedule is 24/7, non-scheduled, generally working 40 hours per week – workdays and hours are determined by weather, stream flows and visibility, access, fishing schedules, and fish densities.
    2. A flexible hourly and daily work schedule is needed to perform the assigned tasks – weekend, holiday, and evening work may be required.
    3. The work week is Sunday – Saturday, hours worked over 40 will be considered overtime which is either paid or earned as compensatory time by mutual agreement.
  • Tools and Equipment:
    1. Rafts, pontoons, drift boats, jet-pump outboard equipped sleds, general raingear, waders, wading shoes raincoat, Personal Floatation Device (PFD), Polaroid glasses, GPS unit, WDFW hat, and other survey gear is provided.
  • Customer Interactions:
    1. Must be able to have positive communication skills and respectable public relation skills.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from high school or GED, including one year of high school science AND Two (2) years of experience as a Scientific Technician 1.

          OR

  • Graduation from high school or GED including one year of high school science AND Two (2) years of laboratory or field experience as an assistant to a biologist, chemist, or zoologist.

Please Note: College course work involving major study in biology, zoology, fisheries, chemistry, natural sciences, or closely allied field will substitute, year for year, for experience, provided the course work includes at least six semester or nine quarter hours of natural science classes.

AND

  • Basic swimming skills required.

Certifications/Licenses: 

  • Valid Driver’s License.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Elementary biology, in-the-field identification of live and dead salmonids.
  • Identifies, interprets, and monitors salmonid/lamprey spawning activity by species.
  • Experience operating watercraft in river type waters.
  • MOCC or State Boater’s Card required for Motorboat operations.
  • Basic computer data entry skills.
  • The ability to follow oral and written instructions, communication skills and the ability to interact with the general public are necessary.
