Expand and enhance WDFW’s Volunteer Program by collaborating with a broader group of partners to engage people in conservation and stewardship!

Plan, develop, and manage the statewide Volunteer Program, including managing policies, procedures, screening, training, recognition, and other tools and resources for the program.

Picture yourself, working closely with programs and regional staff to identify the needs, develop local volunteer opportunities, ensure consistency, and provide consultation for staff. 

With your experience you will serve as the primary point of contact for staff, the public, businesses, organizations, advisory groups, government agencies, and other entities for WDFW’s Volunteer Program.

Duties
Provides oversight, guidance, and support to Department staff working with and/or supervising volunteers, and volunteers:

  • Advise staff on all aspects of volunteer management to ensure consistency and safety.
  • Administer and provide user support to staff and volunteers for the Department’s volunteer management software, CERVIS.
  • Provide volunteer training opportunities to Department staff and volunteers.
  • Field incoming communications from volunteers or prospective volunteers.

Develops and maintains working relationships internally and externally:

  • Work with programs and volunteers to identify and create opportunities to promote and/or recognize accomplishments of volunteers.
  • Attend meetings and events, give informational presentations, and participate in workshops/trainings on behalf of the Department with external partners.  

Serves as the Department’s subject matter expert on volunteer management: 

  • Provide consultation and recommendations on applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures for volunteer management.
  • Advise the Department’s Executive Management Team on policy issues related to volunteers.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work Setting, including hazards:    
    1. Indoor office setting – office hazards include working under fluorescent light, repetitively entering data into computer, looking at computer monitor for long periods of time. 
  • Schedule:   
    1. 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. 
  • Travel Requirements:   
    1. Travel up to 20% of the time – within Washington state 
  • Tools and Equipment:   
    1. Computer, phone, and printers. 
  • Customer Interactions:          
    1. Staff, volunteers, organizations, and the public.

Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Closely related qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-by-year basis.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resource management, organization development, volunteer management, behavioral science, psychology, or a closely related field. 

AND 

  • Four (4) years of professional experience in volunteer management, community outreach, non-profit leadership, or closely related field.

Certifications/Licenses: 

  • Valid Driver’s License.  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two (2) years of experience managing a large, dynamic volunteer program, including volunteer recruitment and training. 
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Certification in Volunteer Management by the Association for Volunteer Administration or another professional organization. 
  • Demonstrated experience with social networking in an organizational setting.
  • Proficient in a second language.
