We have one (1) Permanent position available in the Admin Modernization Program of the Oregon Department of Forestry located in Salem. For specific questions regarding this position please contact Bill Herber, Deputy Director for Administration at 503-945-7203.

What You Will Do

You will assist with providing overall department-wide application design, development and user support in applications and process improvements implemented by the Admin Modernization Program (AMP).  This position will work with the AMP special projects team and department staff to define user requirements, application design, programming, error checking, beta testing, training, and ongoing user support.

Because the Department’s highest priority work is a forest fire emergency, this position may be utilized during those emergencies to provide assistance in a variety of ways.  That assistance may be directly aiding the emergency effort in the field or at the Salem headquarters.  It also may be in providing backup to fill in for another position that is being used in direct aid to the emergency, or it may be in performing an essential function in some capacity either within this Program or elsewhere in Salem or in the field.

What We Are Looking For

  • Five (5) years of information systems experience in modern application design and development; OR An Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, OR completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field; AND three (3) years of information systems experience in modern application design and development; OR A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field AND one (1) year of information systems experience in modern application design and development.

Candidates who are the most competitive will also reflect the following:

  • Adept at recognizing and anticipating emerging project risks and business priorities and addressing these developments through risk mitigation, contingency plans and communication strategies.

  • Expert-level IT skills in Web Application Architectures, Application Concept Design utilizing Story Board, Application Work Flow Tools, and other UI Concept Development Tools to accurately and clearly describe and specify proposed application systems to both non-technical and technical audiences.

  • Advanced skills in application design and development including: programming using languages like C#, .NET Frameworks such as .NET Standard and Core, PowerShell, JavaScript and/or HTML.

  • Ability to lead technical and non-technical requirements gathering and analysis projects.

  • Experience providing reporting and data analysis solutions using business process automation, decision support, and fully functional system administration capabilities.

  • Experience using MS SQL application database design, stored procedures and application-level administration.

  • Experience managing or participating in projects throughout the entire Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).

  • Knowledge of trends, technological changes and developments in IT.

Required Driving Record Check

  • Conviction of a major traffic offense within the previous 24 months which includes reckless driving, driving under the influence, failing to perform the duties of a driver, criminal driving while suspended or revoked, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, felony hit and run, etc.;

  • Felony revocation of driving privileges or felony or misdemeanor license suspension within the previous 24 months;

  • More than 3 moving traffic violations in the previous 12 months;

  • A careless driving conviction in the previous 12 months;

  • A Class A moving traffic violation in the previous 12 months.
