The Parks Department

Pierce County Parks manages over 5,000 acres of open space, trails, developed and undeveloped parks.  We provide recreational programs and infrastructure in active and passive parks and along trails. The department consists of four divisions:  Recreation, Maintenance, Administration and Resource Stewardship. Position Summary

Pierce County Parks is accepting applications for an extra hire job opening for several Recreation Assistant at the Frontier County Park, Cross Park and Meridian Habitat facilities.  Applicants will assist the South region recreation staff in a variety of activities, camps, programs, and events for people of all ages.
Applicant will also perform building monitor duties during facility rentals at Meridian Habitat Center, Frontier Park Lodge, and the new Frederickson Community Center at Cross Park.

Hours: 16 hours/week with additional work hours on an intermittent basis
Dates of Work: Varied to include evenings and weekends to assist with events and programs when applicable
Note: These are seasonal positions not eligible for County benefits.

Brief Description of Duties:

  • Assist with the research, coordination and implementation of a variety of events, recreation programs and facility rentals.
  • Ability to lead recreation games, activities and pre-planned programs.
  • Assist with crowd management, stations, tables and general event supervision.
  • Assists with design and distribution of promotional pieces such as flyers, brochures, signs and posters.
  • Attends staff meetings and other meetings as instructed.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to the community.
  • Supervise and serve as point of contact for rental groups and program patrons to ensure the safe and proper use of facilities.
  • Set up and take down equipment, tables and chairs for rentals and recreation programs.
  • Maintain facility cleanliness and assist with light cleaning duties.
  • Complete forms and documentation as required.
  • Make sure facility is safe for all in attendance.

Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products
  • Customer services skills
  • Ability to successfully navigate unusual circumstances
