Primarily responsible for loading solid waste for transportation off site.

Examples of Duties(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks, which may be found in positions of this class.)

Operate equipment to move and load solid waste at transfer stations sites. Maintain machinery and equipment required to perform duties. Perform ground maintenance and general upkeep of all stations. Haul county boxes from all stations. Monitor hazardous waste and oil receptacle areas. Test monitoring wells in accordance with standards set if needed. Perform scale booth duties, and fill in when needed. Operate hand and power tools for maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment. Drive truck and other vehicles including lawn mowers.

Minimum Requirements (An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered)

High school diploma or GED, prior work experience involving heavy equipment operation and maintenance, ability to operate power tools, experience working with the public, math and record keeping skills, and ability to work independently. A valid Class A Washington State Commercial Driver’s License with good driving record is required. Knowledge of laws and regulations regarding solid waste disposal and operations, acceptable handling of waste, and methods of handling and receipting money. Must have physical ability to lift 50lbs on a regular basis and work in variable weather conditions. Successful applicant must pass pre-employment drug test and serve a six-month probationary period.

Health Insurance – Regular full-time employees and their qualifying dependents are eligible for medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage. Some regular part-time employees may receive the same coverage. Employees may partially contribute premiums depending upon the type of coverage selected.

Paid Leave – Sick leave, holidays, and vacation are provided in accordance with the County policy or union contracts. Vacation accrual rates increase at regular intervals based on length of service with the County.

Retirement Plan – All regular Mason County employees are enrolled in the Washington State Public Employee’s Retirement System (PERS, PSERS or LEOFF). The County and employees contribute jointly to the plans.
