Communications and External Affairs Branch: Social Media, Online Community Management, and Product Development Specialist
Ocean Associates, Inc. (OAI) is seeking an individual to provide support to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), West Coast Region. OAI supplies personnel support services on contract to government and industry clients for marine fisheries and protected species.
Background
The Communications and External Affairs (CEA) Branch of NOAA Fisheries’ West Coast Region (WCR) develops pro-active communications strategies to share information about the WCR’s programs and activities to conserve living marine resources. This work requires that complex scientific and policy information is made understandable and accessible to a wide range of audiences, and available through various online and print platforms. The CEA Branch is responsible for communicating key regional actions, policies, and achievements to stakeholders, partners, the public, and other interested parties via outreach material it designs.
Duties
Key tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Product Management:
- Work with program staff, graphic designer, and Communications branch chief to conceive, design, review and support WCR clearance of visual communication products like brochures, reports, infographics, signage, etc.
- Guide product development to meet desired communications goals and objectives.
- Work with staff to meet necessary timelines for distribution, printing, etc.
- Work with graphic designer to evaluate and implement any needed changes to product scoping and design procedures to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
- Social Media and Digital Community Management:
- Work with scientific and management staff to develop multimedia content for web and social media on NOAA Fisheries WCR science, management, and conservation work.
- Use the latest digital techniques to integrate written and visual content to relay complex scientific and technical content.
- Recommend strategic digital platforms and strategies to maximize outreach performance using the web and social media.
- Oversee social media content creation including creating and maintaining a production schedule, consider input from staff and managers, coordinating with internal and external partners, and distributing content.
- Evaluate social media performance through appropriate analytical tools, develop quarterly reports, and make proposals to improve performance as appropriate.
- Maintain social media accounts and ensure that quality guidelines are met and projects are completed on time.
- Provide guidance and best practices to regional staff to increase quality and quantity of social media posts
- Maintain stakeholder email listserv accounts through Government Delivery and ensure that quality guidelines are met and projects are completed on time and properly reviewed
- Provide guidance and advice on best practice to regional staff on use of stakeholder email listservs to increase quality of digital engagement.
- Produce reports on email stakeholder listserv impact, including recommendations for improvement
Other duties
- Social media posts-Due on an as needed basis.
- Stakeholder communications through Government Delivery
- Infographics and visual communication products (fact sheets, presentations, brochures, flyers, outreach materials)
- Graphics to support website feature stories
- Maintain and catalogue photo and videos files
- Develop, authorize and execute longer-term social media campaigns which maximize outreach performance
- Produce reports on social media outreach impact, including content that addresses WCR strategic priorities and recommendations for improvement
Travel is anticipated
Start Date: October 01, 2020
Location: West Coast Regional Center at 7600 Sand Point Way, Seattle WA 98115.
Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time position with benefits. Salary commensurate with experience.
Minimum Required Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a related field of study and at least seven (7) years of experience as a product and social media manager or in a similar position.
- Expertise in managing business, non-profit, or government agency presence on Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, and other social media platforms
- Working knowledge of search engine optimization, keywords, Google Analytics, and social media metrics
- Ability to develop and publish new content for social media audiences (narrative text, infographics, photos, video, etc.).
- Experience providing advice on compliance with NEPA for actions taken under one or more of the following statutes: Endangered Species Act, or Marine Mammal Protection Act
- Knowledge of current trends in online media and ability to translate that knowledge to recommendations for responsive content
- Experience building repositories, managing, and maintaining photo files
