PLEASE NOTE
This position is sedentary in nature; meaning employees sit for up to 7 hours out of an 8-hour workday (performing repetitive motion data entry and fish counting activities at a computer station).

CONTRACT RATE
In addition to the Contract Rate of $22.26 – $27.69 (which may be determined by previous employment) Chelan PUD employees also enjoy outstanding benefits which include the option of a zero cost medical plan (medical, dental and vision for all eligible dependents), holidays and personal leave accrual.

JOB DURATION
This is a seasonal position and begins mid-April and ends mid-November; work hours are 7:00 am – 3:30 pm and workdays may include Saturday and/or Sunday.

JOB POSTING
JOB PURPOSE:
Accurately identify and count various fish species and collect data on adult fish migration at the District’s generating facilities located at Rocky Reach and Rock Island dam in support of District and outside agency hatchery and fish passage programs. The data is used by other District staff and outside fisheries agencies to monitor and evaluate the status of the fisheries resource in the mid Columbia, to help determine salmon and steelhead fishing seasons, and to determine the level of success achieved by the District’s hatchery programs, fish passage operations, and overall Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) goals.

JOB FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function of the job satisfactorily. Essential functions (EF) are those activities that, if not performed, would significantly and fundamentally alter the position.

1. EF  50%  Accurately identify various fish species thru video recordings or direct observation.
2. EF  40%  Correctly record the number of each fish species passing through the generating facility by reviewing video recordings, and performing direct observation. Provide daily counts for each species.
3. EF  10% Operate and configure computer-based monitoring equipment.
4. EF  Ongoing Perform daily housekeeping of work area.
5. EF  Ongoing Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Comply with District policies. Complete all required training. Maintain a working knowledge and comply with District safety procedures and specific safety requirements of this position, and those in accordance with applicable provisions of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC).

Post-Secondary Education:
No higher-level education required. A demonstrated ability to identify fish species is preferred.

Experience:
Ability to identify various fish species. Knowledge of fish passage facilities is desired.

Specific KSA’s: A fully skilled incumbent will have the following specific knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Requires ability to identify, accurately count fish, and record data. Requires attention to detail and ability to concentrate on video images for long periods of time. Ability to work independently and be self-motivated. Requires ability to communicate effectively with other employees.

Language Skills:
Candidate must be proficient in reading, writing and speaking English.

Computers & Equipment: A fully skilled incumbent will have the ability to utilize the following software, hardware, or equipment:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook; Microsoft Excel; and Microsoft Word. The individual is also required to operate a computer, printers, fax machines, copiers and other general office equipment. The individual is required to have knowledge of fish counting equipment such as computer controls
