JOB SUMMARY

Plans, organizes, schedules, supervises and monitors the work of maintenance crews engaged in the maintenance, repair, construction or operations of county roads, bridges and drainage systems.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge of:
Materials, methods, techniques, tools and equipment applicable to road and storm drainage installation and maintenance. Supervisory principles and practices. Hazards and safety precautions of road maintenance and construction. Basic computer skills or willingness to learn. Basic knowledge of basic principles of Regional Road Maintenance Program.

Ability to:

Prioritize, schedule, organize and supervise assigned operations to assure timely and cost-effective completion. Direct, guide, motivate and evaluate the work of staff. Read and interpret blue prints applicable to road and bridge construction, applying information to area of assignment. Accurately perform mathematical functions. Prepare and maintain accurate written reports and records. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, vendors, contractors, and the general public. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Physically performing the essential functions of this job.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job.

  • High School diploma or G.E.D.

  • Five years progressively responsible experience in road maintenance or construction.

  • One year of experience in a lead or supervisory capacity is preferred.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

A valid Washington State CDL A with endorsement N for tank trailers and a good driving record. A First-Aid/CPR Card. A Flagger’s Card.
Maintenance of current skills and additional training as needed.

Health Insurance – Regular full-time employees and their qualifying dependents are eligible for medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage. Some regular part-time employees may receive the same coverage. Employees may partially contribute premiums depending upon the type of coverage selected.

Paid Leave – Sick leave, holidays, and vacation are provided in accordance with the County policy or union contracts. Vacation accrual rates increase at regular intervals based on length of service with the County.

Retirement Plan – All regular Mason County employees are enrolled in the Washington State Public Employee’s Retirement System (PERS, PSERS or LEOFF). The County and employees contribute jointly to the plans.
