Rogue River Watershed Council desires to employ a Restoration Project Manager to develop and implement instream and streamside ecological restoration projects throughout much of southern Oregon’s famous Rogue River Basin. The Rogue River Watershed Council is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

The Restoration Project Manager will develop and implement ecological restoration projects throughout the middle and upper regions of the Rogue River Basin to improve conditions for the benefit of wildlife, plants, communities, and community members. Development of ecological restoration projects will be conducted in a partnership-based manner. Close collaboration and coordination among Rogue River Watershed Council staff and with a broad suite of partnering entities are essential components of this position.

Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the Restoration Project Manager will be responsible for performing the following project management activities:

  • work with landowners, agencies, technical experts, and Rogue River Watershed Council staff to develop and implement ecological restoration projects consistent with the Rogue River Watershed Council’s mission, landowner/ land manager/ water right holder goals, and current regulatory agency requirements (percentage of time roughly 30%);

  • develop and manage ecological restoration project budgets, grant reports, permits, and land manager/ landowner/ water right holder agreements (roughly 15%);

  • coordinate contractors including seeking and reviewing bids, awarding and negotiating contracts, overseeing contractors, and inspecting contractor work (roughly 30%);

  • monitor ecological restoration projects and communicate project-related information (roughly 15%);

  • cooperate with Rogue River Watershed Council staff to assess opportunities, conduct landowner and resource agency outreach to develop priority ecological restoration projects, develop and steward partnerships, and seek funding to engineer and implement ecological restoration projects (roughly 10%).

The Restoration Project Manager will direct contractors and consultants on projects within their areas of responsibility. Where necessary in the performance of their duties, the Restoration Project Manager will supervise or lead other staff and volunteers and can expect to occasionally assist Rogue River Watershed Council staff with projects outside of their direct responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in biology, civil engineering, ecology, fisheries, hydraulic engineering, hydrology, natural resources, or a closely related major.

Experience: At least two years’ experience with environmental restoration/ remediation, with at least some experience with instream construction. Preference will be given to candidates demonstrating specific experience related to large wood installation, instream excavation, fish passage (dam removal, fishway construction, bridge/ culvert removal and installation), integrated pest management in riparian areas, and monitoring in aquatic and near stream environments.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort
The Restoration Project Manager will work from the Rogue River Watershed Council office in Central Point. There will be work situations that demand being outdoors in all weather conditions and on uneven terrain. A valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and a good driving record are required. Some work on weekends and during evening hours will be necessary.
